Abstract

The Republic of Congo is a state that has always showed interest in protecting and enhancing its
cultural heritage. In fact, from the early days of independence, it has not stopped setting up various
policies for cultural development. In March 2008, Ministry of culture has included on the tentative list of
UNESCO two major sites in the history of Congo: Loango’s ancient embarkation port for slaves and the
Royal domain of M’bé. This step fairly illustrates the willingness to protect and enhance Congo’s
touristic potentials, and our project goes in that direction; it intends to contribute to the protection of
cultural heritage and to the efficient management of the environment on these two memorial sites in
preparation for their inclusion on the world heritage list: two actions that, in our view, are indissociable
from one another and closely linked.
The logic of this work is to be an effective means to protect and enhance Congolese cultural heritage
on the one hand and to make local populations profit from its economic impact on the other hand.
