This work focuses on haze seasonal variations the impact of climatic factors, especially haze, on the development of cerebro-spinal meningitis in the far-North Province of Cameroon. It also describes the different strategies elaborated to fight more or less efficiently against this endemic disease.

The realization of this work is based on the comparative analysis of epidemiological statistics gathered from 1987 to 2007, and on climatic data (haze, temperature and rainfall) collected from 1990 to 2007. These data were obtained thanks to the contribution of the Meteorological service of the Regional Delegation of Transport in Maroua (climatic data) and the Regional Delegation of Public health for the far-North in Maroua (epidemiological data). Different research documents were also used, notably a research questionnaire on the knowledge of meningitis by the sample population of this study.

Results obtained show that climatic characteristics (high temperature, low rainfall amount and haze seasonal variations) and the social context influence the occurrence and the development of meningitis. It was also realized that meningitis and haze intensity are submitted to spatial and periodic variations.

Because of lack of educational knowledge concerning meningitis, this dangerous disease continues to attack mostly youths. And the existing strategies, both modern and traditional are not efficient enough.
